Pioneer church planting in Hagenow-Kietz, Germany
- Type:
- Long term
- Location:
- Hagenow-Kietz, Germany
- Duration:
- 2-5 years, 5 years or more
FeGN (Freie evangelische Gemeinde in Norddeutschland) has started a new work in a small deprived neighbourhood in an East German town near Schwerin and are looking for more team members, partnering with ECM in the search. The area has a high concentration of migrants from eastern Europe and beyond, as well as Germans on low incomes. There are many social challenges and much need of the Gospel!
Our basic 'mode' of ministry is living in, learning to love, and serving this neighbourhood with its variety of people, languages, cultures, strengths, and weaknesses. Apart from passively listening, observing, and learning, we are involved in activities such as games and crafts with kids, homework support, a weekly youth group, and litter picking.
Would you like to join us? We are looking for people with a humble learning attitude to learn from and serve the residents and build church with them, not for them! This involves continuous study of the social and cultural context, the willingness to adapt, and the courage to contextualise church in all of its aspects (language, liturgy, music, etc.)
This might not be the easiest place to live and will mean leaving your comfort zone but we are keen to involve young, courageous, energetic, calm, and resilient workers to move this ministry forward.
Knowledge of the German language is important though not essential as it may be learned in Germany. Knowledge of any other language, notably Romanian, Polish, Russian, or Arabic would be an extremely helpful 'bonus'. Bi-vocational ministry is also possible.
